Part 3

His skin was hot.
He wondered if he might melt right through.
Radan fumbled helplessly with his hands. Leshak’s hair was silky against his fingertips, sending shivers down his spine.
“Are you afraid?”
Leshak asked parting his lips.
His voice sounded absurdly erotic in its raspy wetness.
“Oh, well, no…… no, actually, yes. I’m a little…… scared, Your Majesty.”
“Are you afraid I’m going to hurt you?”
“Uh, no. I-“
“I?”
“Uh…… I’m afraid of what might happen, Your Majesty.”
Beneath his arousal, Radan appeared just as perilous.
Leshak’s eyes grew darker as he stared at Radan, who was reduced to only a single blindfold. The inky black eyes made it hard to tell what was truly dangerous.
“It will be all right.”
Leshak bit his bottom lip.
Of course, that was a lie.
But he was the one who got himself into trouble.
A blank space opened up in his mind. He couldn’t think of anything but one thought from earlier.
Leshak leaned in, he intertwined his fingers with Radan’s at the same instant.
Radan moved his body as if he were leading the way, opening up a path. Their bodies overlapped along the new path.
“Radan.”
A drop of sweat slid down his face with a plop, and although Radan didn’t know what it was, he caught it at the corner of his mouth.
“Radan.”
Their fingers intertwined tightly.
“I’m-I…….”
Radan pulled their intertwined hands closer. Leshak leaned in, and Radan forced his head up and brushed his lips against Leshak’s jaw.
At that moment, the last of his doubts vanished.
Leshak’s eyes were fierce as he pressed himself against Radan, overlapping their bodies.

And the next day.
Meoww.
Radan awoke to Hedel’s familiar call.
“Mmmm……Hedel…….aah,”
He winced at the pain in his throat.
He felt as though he had a boulder lodged in it. Then his entire body ached. His extremities felt so heavy as though they didn’t belong to him.
And then,
“Shhh.”
Radan blamed Leshak for the heavy feeling.
He had his whole body entangled on top of his. Radan found it hard to breathe, aside from the wonderful feel of Leshak’s cheek pressed against his ear.
“Your Majesty, are you awake?”
“……Shhh.”
Leshak made an indecipherable noise.
“Your Majesty, I don’t want to wake you up but……,
“Shhh.”
“You’re a little heavy,”
“Shhh.”
When Radan persisted, Leshak entangled him with his limbs more firmly.
“Your Majesty, you are awake, aren’t you?”
“…….”
Instead of answering, Leshak rubbed his closed eyes against the nape of Radan’s neck.
Radan rotated his shoulders and asked again.
“Are you alright?”
“……No.”
The answer, which came after a long pause, made Radan’s heart sink.
“I think it’s past time…… to get up.”
Leshak’s hair brushed against his skin, tickling the back of his neck. That’s how he knew Leshak was shaking his head.
“If you’re going to sleep more, I’m going back to the guest room.”
Leshak’s hand clamped down over his mouth.
“Shhh.”
“…….”
“Your Majesty.”
“Shhh.”
No matter what he did, Leshak had no intention of letting go of Radan.
Meowwww.
Hedel thumped Radan’s head with his front paw. The gesture, as far as he knew, was his way of telling him to wake up and see that the sun was shining.
“Let go, Your Majesty, I want to get up now……”
Frustrated, Radan pushed him away. Then, suddenly, he coughed.
“……cough!”
His throat was so sore. The inside of his throat was swollen.
He didn’t realize it, but so were his eyes, and his lips, and there were spots from Leshak’s mouth all over his body.
In his vague recollections of the night before, he seemed to have sobbed a lot and made a lot of noise.
Radan had no idea that sharing a night together could cause so much trouble in the morning.
“Radan!”
A coughing fit jolted Leshak out of his lethargy.
He cradled Radan from behind, stroked his back, and reached over to the side of the bed for the glass of water. It was a nimble motion without the slightest hint of drowsiness.
Instead of bringing the water to Radan’s mouth as he should have, Leshak filled his own and passed it to him.
When their lips touched, the texture was different. His lips were not smooth and supple as usual, but rather puffy and tight.
He realized he had caused it.
Leshak chuckled softly as he passed the water to him.
Even now that the sun was up, his eyes were still as bright as they had been the night before.
“Ah, it hurts, Your Majesty.”
“……hmm?”
Radan gently pushed him away, and Leshak realized he’d been pressing his lips to Radan’s long after he’d finished feeding him water.
His lips were even redder now.
“I don’t see any tears.”
“But…….”
The blindfold Radan was wearing now was white.
The Crown Prince’s Chamberlain had taken great care in dressing Radan, and the number of embroidered, bejeweled, and ornately decorated blindfolds was already in the dozens.
The white silk covering his pale skin was reminiscent of a white field of untrodden snow, and the sight of his fiery red lips atop it was dangerously suggestive.
“Sometimes,”
Leshak murmured as he pressed his thumb to Radan’s lips.
“What……?”
“Sometimes I feel relieved that you can’t see me.”
“Why…… is that,”
“Because you can’t see,”
What eyes he was looking at him with, what expression he was making,
Or what kind of thoughts he was thinking.
How savage and animalistic he is.
Because you don’t know.
Leshak squeezed Radan’s chin.
He’d long since forgotten his words of, ‘it hurts’. He opened his mouth and swallowed Radan’s lips.
Mewww!
A lascivious, dangerous kiss would have ensued if Hedel hadn’t jumped onto Radan’s shoulder and swatted at them with his tail, bringing them both crashing down.
“This thing,”
Leshak barely swallowed the words before turning his head to glare at Hedel.
Meow, Meow!
Hedel’s tail twitched as if he had a lot to say.
“Hedel? What’s wrong?”
Hedel swatted at Radan’s pillow with his front paws.
Leshak snatched the pillow away.
“……What,”
His eyes narrowed.
On the white sheets lay the stiffened carcass of an animal.
This time it was a mole.

“What the hell is this mole doing here?”
The Guardian Knights were summoned.
Still, there wasn’t as much fuss as when the snake was found yesterday. There was no way a mole could possibly be involved in an assassination attempt.
Which made him ponder.
“What the hell were they going for with that mole? It’s not going to scare him away.”
It wouldn’t scare him, but it would ruin his morning.
Soon enough, it was clear that someone was trying to harass Radan, and it had morphed into something as serious as an assassination attempt.
Leshak’s mood was getting increasingly worse.
Someone was harassing Radan and he didn’t even know who it was.
Once was unacceptable, and this was the second time!
“What about the Duke of Ireton? Is there any sign of anything?”
Leshak spoke, and the Guardian Knights fell silent in unison.
There was nothing they could say to the Crown Prince, his palace had been invaded twice and they hadn’t found a trace of an intruder.
After the discovery of the water snake yesterday, the entire palace guard was on high alert. Every man stood guard with bloodshot eyes. Veroz himself has been making sure that anyone who might be suspected of being anti-Crown Prince faction or overly loyal was being followed up on.
Still, the intruder in the Crown Prince’s palace couldn’t be distinguished from a reflection in a mirror. Besides, the way Leshak was clenching his fists, it was obvious that something was going to happen sooner or later.
Everyone’s complexions were grim.
“Ah, the Duke of Ireton hasn’t shown any signs of trouble, Your Majesty. I don’t think he has anything to do with it.”
“And the chamberlain?”
“He doesn’t seem to be either, Your Majesty. All the suspects are cleared for now.”
Leshak furrowed his brow.
“Then who is it?”
“That I do not know…… I apologize, Your Majesty, but we will find out soon enough.”
“I’ve been hearing that since yesterday.”
“That,”
Abadd’s shoulders slumped in a way that suggested he’d rather be punched.
Whoever dared to invite an assassin into the Crown Prince’s palace couldn’t possibly be so sloppy as to be uncovered within a day.
If he knew enough to realize that, why was he behaving like this?
“……I apologize, Your Majesty.”
The truth was, he resented it.
Leshak blamed all the guards for all the trouble in the palace, but they were the ones who were overworking themselves.
Even if nothing is more important to you right now than Duke Elkiana’s safety, shouldn’t he also take into account their situation?
“Change the method.”
“What, Your Majesty?”
“Spread the word that a mole has been found in my bedroom. Tell them that the garden wall is low, that all kinds of wild animals are getting in, and that the garden will be renovated soon.”
If the intruder’s intention was to harass Radan, the opposite was to imply that he had not succeeded.
To make up for his failure, sooner or later the intruder would send another object that made his intentions more clear.
“And watch to see who or what comes in.”
The faces of Abadd and the other Guardian Knights brightened slightly.
“Now, as for pursuing the intruders-“
“Increase the numbers. Not just the suspects, but all those who might be in or out of the Crown Prince’s palace. Find out by tomorrow.”
Their faces brightened for a moment, then went dark again.
“By, by tomorrow?”
Bang!
Leshak shoved aside the table and stood up.
“If you’re late, you’ll be tending the garden yourself. Replant every single plant, down to the weeds.”
“Uh, that’s too……,”
Luckily, Abadd was able to keep himself from blurting out the words when Sidris gave him a good, firm stomp on the foot.
“It’s ……reasonable, Your Majesty.”
“If you understand, move quickly.”
Slam!
Leshak kicked open the door to his office slicing through the wind like a knife.
His footsteps seemed to indicate that he was heading for the annex.
Abadd turned to his companions with a gloomy look on his face.
“Have any of you ever done any landscaping?”
Sidris slapped him on the back of the head.
“Time for some bullshit, Head Knight.”
Abadd sighed heavily, not bothering to rub his throbbing head.
The throbbing of his head soon became an uncontrollable rage directed at the unknown intruder.

“My Lord Radan.”
A chamberlain assigned to the Annex entered the audience chamber with a message.
“Yes.”
“Chef Aloy, is requesting to see you, will you allow him to do so?”
Instead of an emphatic “Yes,” Radan sounded uncharacteristically tired.
“What can I do for you?”
“I made a new snack and I wanted to see what you thought of it.”
“Oh…….”
Radan shook off the fatigue.
His limbs still felt so heavy and groggy. A grunt escaped him as he struggled to keep his back straight.
He wasn’t angry at Leshak, but he was a little resentful. Over and over again, he told him that he was having a hard time, but he just tried to soothe him with the lie, “Just a little more.”
At first, it wasn’t that hard. As time went on, Leshak became more and more persistent, saying, “You should be used to it by now.”
To be honest, Radan hadn’t gotten the slightest bit used to spending the night with Leshak. It felt like he still needed to spend a lot of time with him before he could say he was used to it.
And he was glad that they were going to have a lot of time. They still had to wait for the red moon ninety-five more times.
His resentment of Leshak was a minor matter.
In the meantime, Hedel bounced up and down on Radan’s lap in anticipation as if to confirm that he understood the word snack.
“Yes, tell him it’s fine.”
“Yes, Sire.”
A moment later, Radan stepped into the audience room, carrying Hedel.
Meow.
Hedel recognized the Chef first. The Chef’s mouth dropped open at the sight of Hedel who jumped out of Radan’s arms as soon as he entered the realm.
“Oh…Oh, oh.”
The chef dropped to the floor and lifted the cloche off the silver tray.
Meeeeow.
Hedel wrinkled his nose and quickly stepped in front of the tray.
“Ohhhh……yes. It’s yours, it’s yours. Yes, yes, yes. Good boy.”
This time the treats smelled like yellow cheese.
Radan heard a muffled crunching sound. Hedel indulged in the new treat, half distracted.
“Hedel seems to like it better than the fish cake, Your Highness.”
The Chef said excitedly.
Radan smiled and nodded.
“I think so.”
The Chef’s eyes flashed.
“Since I know you like fish and I know you like cheese, why don’t we make some goat for dinner? The goat meat will go very well with the new Lorfork cheese we have in stock.”
“Yeah, I’m sure Hedel will love it.”
Radan shook his head in disbelief.
“Three days of snacking is not good……,”
No, it really wasn’t, but every day he could feel Hedel getting heavier. It was also a problem that the Chef liked him too much.
“What? Well, I suppose not.”
The Chef’s face turned sullen and his shoulders sagged.
Leshak, who had just entered the chamber, comforted him.
“Why not? You may make it as you wish.”
“Your Majesty.”
Before Radan could rise to his feet at the sound of his voice, Leshak was there, touching Radan’s shoulder and planting a quick kiss on the top of his head.
“Stay put. I heard you were unwell, so why are you out in the chambers, you should be sleeping.”
“I’m not sleeping anymore.”
“What about your throat? Is it better now?”
“Yes. It’s much better.”
“It’s not all better, though. You still sound funny.”
The one who had been making Radan cry all night was naturally concerned.
“You need to get more rest. Go lie down.”
“I’m fine, Your Majesty.”
“You’re not fine.”
In truth, Leshak was getting a little grumpy.
Radan wasn’t listening when he told him to stay in his bedroom. Well, maybe it’s more accurate to say that Hedel didn’t listen, not Radan, but the result is the same. And Leshak couldn’t understand why Radan insisted on staying with Hedel.
The damn cat just wants a snack.
Then it wouldn’t have given a hoot if Radan were in the bedroom, or the basement of Asilah palace.
So why not just come with him and stop wasting all his precious time worrying about that damn cat.
“Let’s move to the bedroom. Let Hedel have his snack here.”
“Your Majesty, but……,”
Radan stammered, and Leshak swallowed his lips with his own.
The Chef fidgeted with his mouth agape, embarrassed at the sight of the two kissing,
Bam!
Hedel, who had cleaned her plate, suddenly scurried out the window.
