Volume 3 – Prophecy

1

At the same time as Leshak kissed Radan in the bedchamber,

A cocky Amboian was carrying a hard-cured pork shank from Cythern Castle’s larder to the main annex.

Of course, he was a wealthy Lord whose body had never done any hard work so he was only pretending to do it and the real work was being done by an attendant.

Vendel Reed, an accounting genius, who is said to be the fastest and most proficient actuary in Amboia, was carrying a sack of fruit.

Just then, the bottom of the basket burst, and a large number of peaches spilled out onto his feet.

“Ugh……!”

It was so painful that tears welled up in his eyes, however, he couldn’t even scream.

This was the detached palace of the Ibeden Imperial Family, and that meant that there were enemies on all sides.

“Ugh…….”

Vendel clenched his jaw and swallowed the pain.

Zorg quickly grabbed a peach and put it in his mouth.

As he watched the clever beast peel off the peach’s skin with its tiny teeth and spit on its feet, his anger arose in bounds.

His anger was not just at Zorg, but at the person who caused this situation.

“My Lord!”

Vendel couldn’t stand it and called out to Ozdin.

In his heart, he wanted to shout so loud that he would make Ozdin’s eardrums burst, but that was impossible. The fact that he couldn’t, contributed greatly to his anger.

“What the hell is this!? Really, what are you doing!? What about my feet!? Are you going to pay for treatment? Are you going to compensate me for the damage? Yes!?’

Ozdin answered with an unapologetic look.

“Is that what I should do?”

“Oh no, that’s it! Of course, you should! But is this just a matter of money though, huh? What if we die here!? Who the hell will take care of my old mother?’

“We won’t die.”

“How can you say that even after walking into the enemy camp on your own feet? Who could guarantee that!?”

“I can.”

Ozdin wasn’t joking.

He got along so calmly without getting worked up, with an easy smile, as though he had no difficulties in the world.

Ozdin seemed to have become a completely different person in the last few days.

“I will escape from here safely with Radan and we will be going to Amboia. So I’m going to make Radan my bride. That is my destiny.”

“Clearly, even after getting to this point, you can’t let go of your lingering feelings…… ”

He spoke without even realizing it. Vendel stopped saying useless things.

It was either lingering feelings, or it was just pathetic.

Or it was an obsession.

Ozdin Gett was already blind.

The richest man in the world, who seemed to never understand the word attachment, now realized for the first time what it was.

He will have to walk a pretty rough road in the future,

To realize the truth, that there are beings in this world that cannot be obtained even with money or luck.

All Vendel wanted,, was to save Ozdin’s life.

Or at the very least, he hoped that Leshak Caliph was not reckless enough to seriously try to kill the only son of the head of the Gett.

“Yes, well, anyway. How long do I have to do this? Didn’t you come to see Mr. Radan?”

Vendel put down the peach sack and sat down on the ground, exhaling a weary breath.

Being loaded in a wagon like a porter and carrying loads like a real worker was something he could never do twice.

Above all, he was confident that Ozdin would not succeed.

Seeing the way Leshak Caliph did things, his opinion was turned on its head. If one looked at it clearly, Ozdin had never lacked anything. There was no way he could let Radan go quietly.

Nevertheless, the reason Vendel came this far was that he couldn’t stop Ozdin, however, he also believed that he just needed to give him some time to understand his ‘fate’.

Ozdin would somehow meet Radan tonight.

And……

‘…… He is going to get dumped again.’

It was a good thing in his eyes.

Ozdin was going to drag Radan away saying that they were going to Amboia, and Radan would firmly refuse with a resolute expression.

He hated acting as a porter, but what he hated more was that he would have to take care of Ozdin after he was dumped.

“It will be very difficult. Of course, he has never suffered heartbreak in his entire life. He will probably act as though the world is ending. He might go crazy or guzzle crates of alcohol and make a fuss, and dramatically plunge himself into the sea. I’ll have to stop him every time. Ah, really!”

It was painful just imagining it, but there was no other way.

If Ozdin died, his advantageous job which has given him all the wealth and glory of Amboia would also be over. He had to somehow keep Ozdin alive and take him back to Amboia.

“Was there any other way? Money is the root of my problems. Ah. this is just my luck!.”

Still, he couldn’t keep carrying these damn peaches around! His legs were shaking, his back felt as though it were going to break, and his fingers were already blistered.

“No more, no more! Let the Lord take care of this!”

Vendel folded his arms. If necessary, He was going to lie down right there.

Then,

“We have to move now.”

Prophet Hadir, who had been sitting on the floor in front of Vendel, got up.

Vendel’s head turned sharply to follow him.

“……What? Where?”

Ozdin hurried over and helped lift Vendel from his seat.

Oh, come on! Successor Lord! You’re hurting me. Be gentle!.”

Unfortunately, neither the men nor the beast listened to his bluff.

“Is it time?”

Ozdin asked, and Hadir nodded.

In the night sky, the red moon was wrapped in a thick halo.

It was the time in which the shadows beneath their feet melted into the shadowy darkness.

“Damn it. There is no end to it. How many people have entered, in all?

Abadd let out a painful sound.

He now fully understood why the guards didn’t even try to search the wagon.

It was no exaggeration to say that the wagon procession was endless.

The food needed in order to feed the entire Leshak Army was not the standard amount.

The Alton Company, which got all of these goods in a single day after they ordered them, seemed like a great company.

“I said thirteen Including the driver and the booking clerk.”

“Can’t you see there isn’t thirteen?!”

“Because things are still being carried.”

“Damn it!. This means we have to go to each warehouse individually.”

Abadd showed his annoyance. This was something too tedious for the Head Guardian Knight to do.

We should do it quickly before they enter the castle. Anyway, all these guys are gone now. You know that the reason Cythern has been unharmed so far is because of the hard work of the Leshak Army at the border.”

“I know, but you can’t feel the war’s presence here. It’s so peaceful. You can tell that by the way the wagons passed through here without being searched.”

Sidris sounded as though he were equally annoyed at these trifling matters.

“Yes, yes. Let’s start the next search from here.”

“That’s a good idea.”

Karum wrinkled his nose as Abadd and Sidris exchanged these words.

“Then let’s start from here. No, it will take more time if we all go together, so let’s each take one. I’ll look over here, so you……what are you doing, Rum?”

Abadd grabbed Karum, who was walking in the wrong direction.

Karum put his hand under his nose and moved it back and forth.

“It smells like peaches.”

“What?”

Abadd clicked his tongue.

“Who wouldn’t call him a bear cub? In the midst of this, you want to talk about fruit?”

He was making fun of him, however, his face showed he was only teasing him.

But Karum was serious.

“The smell is too strong.”

“Oh?”

“If it was in a sack or crate, the smell would not be so strong.”

Karum shook off Abadd and began sniffing as he walked.

Finally, Karum found a storage room that mainly housed fruits and vegetables. Just as he had said, there were crushed peaches scattered on the floor that looked like they had been spilled from a torn sack.

“Just who would spill these and not clean them up?”

“Well, I think we’ll have to ask who the porter was that was carrying these peaches.”

It was Sidris who responded to that.

“No. There is no need.”

“Why?”

Sidris straightened his body that was bent over examining the peach. Between his fingers was a short, thick hair with a reddish tinge. The shape was slightly different from that of a normal hair.

Sidris had seen a similar strange furry beast that was neither brown nor red.

“Do you remember? It’s that sly monkey.”

It was Ozdin Gett’s pet.

“Damn it!”

Shouted Abadd as he ran out without looking at anything else.

“Hey, guard! Be on high alert!”

After a while, the guards began scrambling.

The workers of the Alton Company were tied up and locked in a warehouse without even being told what was going on. Their horses were removed from their wagons, the wagons they pulled were then torn apart and the benches and floors were inspected.

While Leshak’s army and guards searched the inside of the castle, Incris and several knights set off for Alton Company. The plans that Ozdin Gett devised to get Radan back began to shift one by one like interlocking gears.

“Must we keep waiting any longer?”

Ozdin asked impatiently.

They continued to move from this place to that in accordance with the Prophet Hadir’s instructions.

Torch lights from here and there and footsteps pounding inside the castle meant the search had begun. No matter how large the Cythern Palace was, there was no guarantee that they would remain safely hidden forever. If this was the case, sooner or later they would be found.

However, they avoided the search party by listening to the Prophet Hadir’s simple succinct words, ‘Move now’. As long as they changed the location when he said to move, the search party would move in a different direction on its own.

It was amazing.

This would have been impossible if he hadn’t known what would happen in advance.

“Stay still a little bit longer.”

“What is the scope of this prophecy? Was it prophesied that I would be in an unfamiliar palace buried in a pile of laundry, were all the rat tracks around us predicted too?”

Just as he had always done, Hadir did not reveal any answers related to the prophecy.

“Those who are not seers could not understand.”

Ozdin’s face held a blade-like expression on it.

He had no doubts that Hadir was a prophet. If this situation was also a part of the prophecy, he would just embrace it.

It was Hadir that told him that Radan was his fate in the first place. If he couldn’t trust what Hadir said, then that means that Radan was not his destiny. That was impossible! Ozdin believed in that destiny.

However, there was one question that had been bothering him all this time.

“Why are you here?”

Ozdin had to be there because that was his destiny.

However, it was hard to believe that the reason the Prophet Hadir was there was because of destiny.

A prophet observed things from the outside.

He was not the one who struggled from within.

The Prophet Hadir himself came to Ozdin and told him about his destiny with Radan, and he was not enough on his own so he brought Ozdin here.

“Why are you taking action yourself?’

“I wasn’t originally blind.”

Hadir’s answer began as if that were an answer to the question asked of him.

“I prophesied that the Prince of Ibeden would be bitten by a snake, and in return, the Emperor took my eyes. I just want to prove my predictions correct before I die.”

Ozdin clenched his fist.

“That…… Do you mean today, the Unknown Assassin will kill the Prince of Ibeden? Is that what you’re saying?”

Hadir lifted his eyeless face and smiled.

The empty spaces where his eyes were cut out by the Emperor’s order were the ruins of resentment that he had brooded over for twenty years.

He got goosebumps on the back of his neck.

“It is about that time. We have to move.”

“… …”

At the same time.

Outside, another cogwheel was diligently turning.

“So, what is this?”

The voice that kept getting lower, as though it were going down a set of stairs, persistently repeated the same question.

Radan sighed as his neck twitched backward.

The hand that was holding Leshak’s shoulder kept tightening. He kept shifting his legs to change his position, however, it was challenging because he felt awkward no matter what he did.

“Alright, alright, I……think it’s okay,”

“Hmm. It’s okay here.”

Leshak had been nibbling Radan’s earlobe with his teeth for a while, as well as in between his earlobe and his jaw, in the concave spot where his neck and face connected.

It caused a strange sensation somewhere between tickling and pain on his ear, however, the hand wrapped around his waist kept getting hotter.

It was because Leshak kept pressing his lower body closer bit by bit, but Radan didn’t realize it until it was too late.

Radan shrugged his neck inwardly like a tortoise.

Leshak just stopped his shark-like lips.

“Do you not like it anymore?”

“What? No, it’s not necessarily like that…….”

“Well then?”

His ears turned red.

Radan wiggled the hand that was holding Leshak’s shoulder and opened his troubled lips.

“I don’t think I hate it…… ”

It wasn’t just the mood he was talking about.

He was having difficulty and feeling awkward all over his body.

The sensation went all the way to the tip of his toes, and his breathing was labored. There were times when his eyes became blurry and his single-layered clothes felt too tight.

He felt both hot and cold at the same time. Wherever Leshak’s body touched him felt hot, but when he stopped, he felt cold too quickly.

“It keeps…….”

When Radan couldn’t answer easily, Leshak immediately stopped what he was doing. His body moved a few inches away.

Radan felt a cold tingling in his stomach. He wanted him to hug him again and return the warmth, but on the other hand, now he felt like his body, which seemed to not belong to him, was returning to its proper place.

Leshak moved farther away and spoke.

If there was any difficulty, he was several times worse off than Radan was, but Leshak concentrated on Radan’s expression and tried to cool himself off.

“If you don’t like it, just tell me at any point, Radan.”

“That is……”

“I don’t want to do anything that you don’t like.”

He spoke the right words, but his true feelings didn’t seem that straightforward at all. His hot eyes still licked at Radan.

He could stop his hands and feet, however, he couldn’t stop his gaze.

When he thought about Radan’s true feelings, it was even more difficult because he didn’t like it.

The discomfort that Radan was feeling came from his inability to accurately interpret the reactions that were taking place in his body.

However, Radan did not understand that this was a falsehood.

“I don’t like it.”

He didn’t feel the need to lie to Leshak.

“I hate that Your Highness doesn’t do anything.”

And Radan didn’t want Leshak to misunderstand his feelings.

He pulled himself up and took a step on his knees.

Radan put his hand on Leshak’s chest and spoke.

Perhaps because of shame, a low whispering voice came out.

“I think it would be good. If you could do……more.”
