Volume 3 – Cog

“At times,”

Leshak said as he clutched Radan’s face.

“No, the truth is I think I always feel like,”

His upper body leaned forward.

Leshak matched the angle of his face and whispered as he put their lips together.

“You bring out the bad side of me that I didn’t even know existed.”

Radan’s blue eyes surged like water.

“Is that…..do you mean it’s a bad thing?”

“Maybe.”

Leshak laughed briefly.

“Perhaps I was always a bad person and I just didn’t realize it”

They were awfully unsuited words. Radan shook his head.

“That can’t be a true…… thing,”

In the meantime, Radan groaned as Leshak, who had just been digging through his shirt, pressed his collarbone.

The place Leshak was pressing still had a dense lump that was left behind from a few days ago.

“The fact that I’m thinking of embracing you right now, even though this hasn’t had enough time to disappear means that I’m a bad person.”

“That,”

“What’s even worse, is that I don’t even think that’s so wrong anymore.”

Without a pause, Leshak’s lips covered Radan’s.

At the same time, Radan flushed red. Then Leshak’s hand tore the knot from his shirt and dug into it. The palm of Leshak’s hand swept Radan’s bare skin. As Radan marveled at the warmth of Leshak’s palm, Leshak delighted at the soft touch of his skin.

Leshak’s lips followed down Radan’s neckline.

Guided by Leshak’s gesture his body slowly turned around. When he came to his senses his brow was touching the pillow. Leshak guided his arms around him and helped him take off his shirt.

“… …”

When the naked body was exposed, his body temperature dropped a bit. Radan shrugged his shoulders upward slightly. Soon, Leshak’s upper body overlapped with Radan’s back.

He, too, was naked like Radan.

Leshak caught sight of his skinny back with prominent wing bones. Scars that were the remnants of many beatings littered his back.

It looked as though it would still hurt if he touched it even now. Leshak traced the wound with his lips instead of his hands. Radan’s trembling increased.

“Shh. It’s alright.”

Leshak lowered his arms down and wrapped them around him, hugging Radan’s waist.

As he kissed each wound, Radan clasped Leshak’s fingers which were around his waist.

Radan whispered in a low, sunken voice.

“It doesn’t hurt.”

“… …”

“It’s okay now.”

Leshak smiled as he leaned onto Radan’s back.

He was glad it didn’t hurt.

But it was fortunate that he had been hurt before.

It was because of those scars that Radan could be with him now.

If Radan had been the Third Prince of Kemened and not the monster in the basement, he wouldn’t be kissing these scars like this.

So he must be a really bad person for thinking that it was a lucky thing, but as he said, he didn’t even seem that wrong anymore.

Now, nothing else mattered, unless it were this feeling that was tangled up together in his hands.

His entangled hands slid over Radan’s skin and headed down.

“Radan.”

Leshak breathed into Radan’s ear like a sigh.

A world that Radan had not yet been to was waiting for them with its mouth wide open.

And,

Bang!-

“Majesty.”

There was the sound of reality gripping their ankles and pulling them back.

“It’s urgent. Please allow me to open the door.”

”… …”

It was a sight like he had never seen.

Leshak was wearing nothing but a pair of loose pants. The shirt seemed to have been used to wrap up Radan on the bed.

If he made a bet that Radan was naked under that shirt, it was a bet he was sure to win, and the air in the room was still hot.

There was no doubt that he had become a tremendous saboteur.

Sidris also regretted that he had to interrupt this situation at that moment.

“What’s the matter?”

Leshak moved his shoulders in order to obstruct Sidris’ view.

Sidris didn’t add that he was trying his best not to see Radan, even if Leshak wasn’t being so wary.

“While searching the food provisions delivered by the Alton Company, I saw a situation I’m concerned about. It appears that the heir to the Gett used Alton Company wagons to hide in.”

“…… So, it’s the scion Lord of the Gett.”

Leshak’s expression changed dramatically in a short period of time.

His lips twitched in a sour expression. The eyes seemed to have sharp edges, like a still-life sketch.

“I think he came to see you.”

Leshak turned his head to look at Radan. Radan bit his lip involuntarily, and Leshak bit his finger instead of his lips.

“Is there anything you want to say to him?”

“Just…… I wish him to be safe…….”

His pronunciation was slurred because of his fingers.

Leshak saw an overlapping image of Radan stuttering in the past, and he laughed briefly.

“Is that all?”

”…… Yes, Your Majesty.”

“If that’s the case, I can bear that much. Ris, where did you put him?”

Sidris’ face turned slightly pale.

“…… We are looking for him, Your Majesty.”

Leshak’s head turned toward this side. Sidris’ complexion paled slightly more.

As expected, it would have been better to send Karum instead. Karum was so dull that even if Leshak had sharpened eyes like this, it wouldn’t have exhausted him this way.

“Then go and catch him.”

Yes, My Lord.”

Yes, he should have sent Karum for this too.

Because for Sidris there was even more serious news than the fact that scion of the Gett was hiding in the detached palace and was not yet caught.

“Incris went out to find out about the Alton Company,”

“And?”

Sidris forced open his lips that would not open on their own.

“……He was taken, hostage.”

He spoke first and went on very quickly.

“We underestimated the scion of the Gett, Your Majesty. They seem to have prepared a number of things to infiltrate the palace.”

Incris was also one of the cogwheels.

Whether late or early, or if the link between Alton Company and the successor of the Gett was revealed, someone from the Leshak Army had to step in. This was possible because Ozdin’s plans and Hadir’s prophecies were perfectly coordinated.

“From the other side of the wall, they are demanding a hostages exchange, Incris in exchange for pardons from His Majesty.”

The mercenaries of the Alton Company were now waiting outside the gates, holding Incris hostage and demanding the release of the staff imprisoned in Cythern Palace.

He was flabbergasted.

There was no way a single merchant could demand such a crude hostage deal from the Empire. The scion of the Geth would have been the person behind this.

Leshak jumped to his feet.

“Bring me my garb.”

“Yes, My Lord.”

At his command, Sidris ran into the room next door.

Radan hurriedly untangled the shirt that was wrapped around him. The apparel Leshak was speaking about was his armor, but Radan didn’t know that.

“Your Majesty, this……,”

Leshak, who was tying a knot in his pants, turned and grabbed Radan’s hand.

“Nevermind. Stay here.”

There had been a time when something similar to this happened.

Even then, Leshak wished for the same thing as he did now.

“Don’t change this expression.”

This would be different than then.

Leshak lowered his head and gently bit Radan’s earlobe.

“Ugh,”

it didn’t hurt, but the tingling sensation remained.

Leshak’s persistent caress had left a faint bite mark on his earlobe, which was still very sensitively heated.

“I’ll be back until this is gone.”

Radan nodded.

He too was also longing for it.

Maybe now would be different from then.

“……Yes, Your Majesty.”

Come back as though nothing had happened.

He hoped nothing would happen,

In the future.

“Come back safely.”

“Alright.”

Leshak’s gaze stayed on his earlobe for a moment. The shallow tooth marks had already started to fade bit by bit.

“A hostage. Have you lost your mind?!”

Abadd looked at Incris with pity, like the way one looks at someone that was going to die. Incris also wanted to die.

“Don’t say anymore.”

“Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?”

“I know, so you don’t need to say anything.”

Incris said in a tone of voice like he was about to cry.

“Please, don’t tell His Majesty. I’d rather die as a hostage than tell His Highness. How can you not solve this on your own?”

“Tsk……”

Abadd clicked his tongue outright.

“Why didn’t you just die?”

“Give me a break, okay? Are we good friends?”

“Before that, I am the Chief Knight of the Crown Prince’s Guard.”

“Since when have you ever acted like a Chief Knight!?”

“As expected, just die.”

“Lord Bereri, really c,can’t you just decide?”

“No way.”

“Oh, damn it!”

Incris shook his rope-bound body back and forth wildly.

“Damn it! How am I the one in this mess?!”

If there was a reason, it was that he got sloppy.

They knew that the problem came from Alton Company, but what they didn’t know was that Leshak was preparing to move quickly from the beginning.

When Incris went, the Alton Company had already replaced all the people there. There were no merchants with Alton’s surname, only the mercenaries he had hired.

The four knights, including Incris, drew their swords, but they were already outnumbered.

What was even more surprising was the fact that their skills were on par with the Imperial Guard.

The mercenaries of Alton Company, who outnumbered them, took less than half an hour to capture Incris alive. It would have taken more, had a single dagger not been logged into his thigh, but there was no way around it when all of his subordinates had been taken out.

Incris resisted, but in the end, the mercenaries tied up Incris with ropes. He was tied tightly from the wrist to the ankle, to his waist.

All Incris could do was breathe. He was tied so tight around his chest that it was sometimes difficult to breathe.

Among the mercenaries, a figure who appeared to be the head came out.

He shouted at Abadd, who was looking down from the top of the city walls.

“What about the Crown Prince? Do you think our demands are too excessive?”

“His Majesty’s thoughts are none of your business.”

Replied Abadd angrily.

It was difficult for him to admit to the situation himself.

Even if he conceded a hundred times and Incris was taken hostage, a mercenary could not have dared to speak of the Imperial Crown Prince so casually.

Even if they took the effort to bind Incris, that would be nonsensical.

Abadd clenched his teeth and pulled out his sword he had been holding back since the beginning.

Sidris has gone to report, and an answer will be forthcoming soon.

When permission to rescue the hostages was granted, he intended to run himself and decapitate those impertinent people.

To be held hostage in a place where the entire Leshak army was stationed was excessively bad, even if you were stupid. There were only thirty mercenaries who are holding the Incris.

Anyway, this wasn’t his opponent.

“Get ready to die.”

It was a little strange that Alton Company had hired 30 mercenaries. However, since they weren’t far from the battlefield on the western border, he wondered if that was the reason.

In any case, he laughed out loud at how unreasonable it was to be doing this with only thirty men.

“Sir Bereri.”

A soldier approached and cast him a gesture with his eyes.

It was to convey the news that had just come down from the watchtower.

Abadd did not take his eyes off the wall and asked verbally.

“What’s going on?”

“They say there aren’t just 30.”

“Is that so?”

“There is a group approaching this way from the East and the North, respectively. It looks like this was a calculated delay tactic.”

“What are their numbers?”

“There isn’t a lot. There’s a thong of two hundred people coming from the East, and there are thirty-six coming from the North.”

“Are there any deviations?”

Abadd frowned.

“What are they trying to do by splitting up such a small number of people? … Report to His Majesty, and calculate their speed.”

Then a thought suddenly occurred to him.

“Ah, are they all mercenaries?”

“It looks that way, but I’m not sure. We will find out when they get closer.”

“Damn it!”

It seemed odd, for mercenaries hired by the Alton Company he thought their numbers seemed high.

Just like the Alton Company, they were used as a cover.

The future master at the Gett is moving the pieces of the board behind the scenes.

“This is crazy. Is he really going to wage a war against His Majesty the Crown Prince?”

Is it possible to have too much money? How could he even fantasize about wagering a war against the Ibeden Empire on a continent other than Amboia?

He originally thought he was a reckless person, but now he knew he was insane.

“Their enemies may have increased further. If you can see them with one’s naked eye, find something about them that identifies them. They may not all be mercenaries.”

The fall of the Kemened Kingdom had reduced the number of their enemies from five to four, but in the worst-case scenario, it may have been five enemies plus the Gett merchants

Taking into consideration what he was doing now, it was quite possible.

“And report it to His Majesty,”

“There’s no need for that.”

Abadd saw Leshak rising above the wall.

“Your Majesty!”

“Give me my bow.”

When LeShark reached out his hand, the knight escorting him to this place handed him a bow. Leshak walked towards where they were and put an arrow on the string.

“Cris. Do you hear me?”

Incris was barely able to nod his head with a reddened face.

“I am ashamed, My Lord.”

“In this situation, I cannot show you any courtesy. You must die.”

“……What?!”

At that moment when Incris raised his uncertain eyes,

Swish!-

Leshak released the taut bowstring.

Thump!-

The arrow that flew in a clean arc accurately pierced in Incris’s abdomen.

“… … !”

Thud!-

Incris collapsed.

“What, what is this……”

The mercenaries who came to negotiate the hostage were bewildered for a moment,

Uncertainty¹– Thud!-

As if on cue, the drawbridge came down as soon as Incris fell.

Leshak’s troops, led by Sidris, came running on horseback before the drawbridge had even reached the ground.

“Retrieve the hostages! Kill all enemies!”

The thirty mercenaries made a decision based on their best judgment in this situation. They grabbed Incris, loaded him onto a horse, and started to run away, scattering in all directions.

“Seize them!”

When Sidris’ piercing voice pierced through the cloud of dust,

“To the enemies!”

News came from the watchtower.

“Oh, My God! They are swarming in droves!”

The five enemies who had become together were rushing towards the Cythern Palace as one.
